It is almost made to appear that giving adequate time to a book or to serious ideas in print smacks of retardation. Lingering over a passage and allowing it to stimulate the mind is a civilizing experience. No one need apologize for savoring the full meaning of print or for combining thinking with reading. Time given to thought is the greatest timesaver of all.
