If you take a ton of iron from the ground, remote from a railroad, it is worth very little. Take this ore any place where it is accessible to a railroad or a boat and it is still worth very little. If you take it to a smelter and put it into pig iron, it is worth from $15 to $20 per ton. Put that same ton of ore into steel bars, and it is worth $50 a ton. But if you then put it through fine automatic screw machines and develop little screws, so small that it is necessary to use a microscope to see them, for use in holding jewels in watches, the same ton is worth $30,000
