Every parent or relative with young children knows what a tug to the skirt or shirt feels like. The child pulls on a piece of fabric, communicating, "Pay attention to me! I need you!" Sometimes we respond to the first tug. Other time we're so distracted that it's not until the fifth tug that we feel anything. Spiritual practice reminds us that we are committed to attending to those around us, regardless of the problem or busyness of the moment. This practice isn't just about children. A partner or friend may need you right now. Metaphorically, they're tugging at your sleeve. How many tugs will it take for you to respond?
